Eddie Vedder was among the performers at the eight-hour Global Citizen Festival in Johannesburg, South Africa on Sunday. The event honored the 100th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s birth.
Vedder performed four songs, starting with Pearl Jam’s “Porch,” then was joined by the Soweto Gospel Choir for two more Pearl Jam numbers, “Long Road,” which he called “a bit of a prayer” and dedicated to Mandela and Chris Cornell, and “Better Man.” He ended with a cover of John Lennon’s “Imagine.”
The festival also included a surprise appearance by Live Aid organizer Bob Geldof, who sang Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song.” You can watch the video of the entire eight-hour show, which was live-streamed, on YouTube.
