After their appearance on the Rick and the Len show Monday morning, many people have asked me about the band Multipede. So, did I attend the one performance of this mysterious, pudding-loving, band at Mile of Music 7? You bet your sweet Snack-Pack I did. The band gave an impassioned performance blending hard rock and funk all while wearing those weird white things over their heads with visors. It was a little like Blue Man Group if their faces were white and they played multiple instruments instead of just drums an tubes. I would say they were amazing… but amazing is such a limited term!
However, the band that really impressed me was our old friends Wild Adriatic. If you listened to our interview on Monday (or watched it on the Rick and Len Show Facebook page), you no doubt heard Leg 1, the mouthpiece for Multipede, say some genuinely hateful, hateful things about Wild Adriatic. And, while “hateful” is such a limited term, it did demonstrate the kind of deep resentment that Multipede seems to have for the upstate New York band that has made Appleton it’s second home.
But Wild Adriatic proved to be the bigger “men” (again, such a limited term). They not only showed up at Gibson Music Hall before Multipede, they set up all Multipede’s gear! Wild Adriatic apparently left the venue before Multipede’s performance and did not return until after their rivals finished playing and then only doing so to sell merchandise for the band that treated them so poorly on our air Monday morning.
I guess Multipede tried to show their appreciation by performing one of Wild Adriatic’s songs, but that seemed like pretty weak tea to me. They didn’t even share a bowl with WA (sharing a bowl of pudding being the traditional means of settling an argument in whatever time, place or dimension that Multipede this from.)
As I understand it, Multipede insisted on being first served a slice of canned ham before consuming the traditional “peace pudding”, citing the number one rule of Rock ‘n’ Roll mediation; “You can’t have your pudding if you don’t eat your meat.” However, after saying on our air what they said about Wild Adriatic, Multipede should perhaps begin by eating their words. That would be the courteous thing to do. But “courteous“ is such a limited term. -Rick-
