The Great Pumpkin Train departs October 15 & 22, 2011
The National Railroad Museum's annual fall event offers Halloween fun for the entire family, and more this year.
As sure as the leaves will be changing colors this autumn, The Great Pumpkin Train will be leaving the depot at The National Railroad Museum (www.nationalrrmuseum.org) on October 15th and 22nd to transport families on their quest for a perfect pumpkin.
Each admission to the Great Pumpkin Train includes more than just a variety of entertainment, crafts and games for children of all ages -- and a chance to ride the train to the pumpkin patch. The largest steam locomotives ever built, the Museum's Union Pacific #4017 - Big Boy - will turn 70 this October. To mark the occasion, the Great Big, Big Boy, Birthday Bash will be celebrated on October 15th and October 22nd during the Great Pumpkin Train activities. Additional activities will include a birthday cake and a special train pin giveaway. Instead of gifts, the Big Boy asks that all attending his party bring a nonperishable good that the National Railroad Museum will bring to a local food bank. Television station WFRV (Channel 5) is event sponsor.
Other event activities that can be enjoyed throughout both event days: a scarecrow scavenger hunt, a craft station where you can make your own Halloween mask, pumpkin bowling and all of the Museum's regular exhibits. There will also be an entertainment stage that will feature a variety of musicians and magicians. This year's entertainment includes:
The comedy and magic of Jeff McMullen - two shows both days: Saturday: 10:30 a.m. & 1:30 p.m. and Sunday - 12:00 p.m. & 3:00 p.m.
The kids' rock 'n roll of Mr. Billy - two shows both days: Saturday - 12:00 p.m. & 3:00 p.m. and Sunday - 10:30 a.m. & 1:30 p.m.
There will also be a spectacular coloring contest presented by 7-Up products. Youngsters are encouraged to color a Halloween picture while they visit during the Great Pumpkin Train. Winners will be selected hourly to receive 7-Up products. All coloring contest entries will also compete in an artistic judging for a year's supply of 7-Up products.
Tickets for The Great Pumpkin Train are $12 for adults, $10 for adult members; $8 for children ages 2 to 12; and children under age two admitted for free. Advance reservations are not necessary. Tickets can be purchased at the main gate during the event. Proceeds from this event will go to support the Museum's programs and operations.
The National Railroad Museum, located at 2285 S. Broadway, Green Bay, will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both event days.
