Joan Jett and the Blackhearts have had eight platinum and gold albums along with nine Top 40 singles, including their #1 hit “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” that topped the charts for seven weeks in 1981. Their 1988 hit “I Hate Myself for Loving You” was reworked in 2006 into “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night,” the theme music for Sunday Night football broadcasts, performed last season by Carrie Underwood. Their 10th album, Unvarnished, was released last September and reached number 15 on the Rock Albums chart and number 5 on the Independent Albums chart. The group has appeared this year on the Late Show with David Letterman, the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and the Queen Latifah Show.
A life-long Packer fan, Jett is listed in the top 100 greatest guitarists by Rolling Stone magazine, one of only two women on the list, and received the first Alternative Press Icon Award in July for her years as an ambassador of rock music. She was selected by Nirvana to play guitar and handle lead vocals for part of its performance during the group’s induction into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame this year.
