ABC/Randy HolmesLars Ulrich is one of the many artists to be interviewed for The Rise of L.A. Thrash Metal, a documentary about the scene that gave rise to bands including Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer. Billboard has premiered a clip from the upcoming film, featuring Ulrich speaking about the relationship between metal and punk during the '80s Los Angeles music scene.

"I think that there was probably a common bond against whatever it was that was going on in Hollywood at that time," says the Metallica drummer in the clip. "With the fakeness and the make-believe of all these glam bands, and the shallowness of all that type of stuff, that the punks and the heavier metal dudes could kinda bond together against that."

Along with Ulrich, The Rise of L.A. Thrash Metal features interviews with ex-Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo, and members of Alice in Chains, Anthrax, Body Count and Suicidal Tendencies. Megadeth bassist David Ellefson narrates the film.

The first part of The Rise of L.A. Thrash Metal will be released on DVD on Friday, January 19. The second part is due out in March.
