A PERSONAL PLEA FROM RICK
My dad served in World War II. Like so many people who have been to war, he never talked about it. At least not to us. But the one place that he could be himself and interact with people who had shared experiences and understood was at the VFW club. My dad was a member of the Appleton VFW post 2778 and found solace and camaraderie there in the friendship of his fellow vets.
One of the mottos of the VFW is, “Those who fought together, belong together“. Giving vets a place to gather and commiserate is just one of the roles filled by the Appleton VFW. They assist with job placement for returning vets, help with counseling, assist with benefits, do so much charity work, and that just scratches the surface. I will never forget the members of post 2778’s presence at my father’s funeral and their efforts to give dad the military sendoff he deserved.
So, it’s with heavy heart that I read that they are facing a financial crisis that could bring an end to their 80 year history of being there for veterans in Appleton.
They need to raise $50,000 in the next 90 days. Please don’t let our vets down in their hour of need.
You can help. Please consider making a contribution at their Go Fund Me page ASAP. And please share this post. Thank you! -Rick-
