Brandon Hatfield is not a smart man. He apparently broke into a St. Augustine, Florida Alligator Farm and caused some chaos over the course of four hours.
Staff arriving the next morning found several lamps and signs broken and a statue in the middle of the crocodile pit that you can only get to by swimming was knocked over. Staff also found a pair of shorts and a rubber “Crocs” brand shoe floating in the water. Then they found the blood.
When police got to the park, they went through surveillance video that you can see below. Hatfield can be seen climbing the fence to jump into the crocodile pond, where an approximately 9-foot crocodile lunged toward him and locked onto his left foot. Hatfield could be seen trying to fight off the crocodile — then managed to get away.
Hatfield was discovered in a nearby yard after a caller to 911 reported an unknown man “doing a slow, creeping crawl” on her property. “There’s a man with only gym shorts crawling,” the caller said. “He’s just crawling with his shorts halfway down his [butt] and no other clothes.”
