Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason dropped by Buckingham Palace last week to collect his CBE — Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his outstanding work in music.
Queen Elizabeth made the declaration in December, but her grandson Prince William presented the medal. Though Mason had joked that he was being given the “long service medal,” he did say that the honor was “quite extraordinary, because you never have a sense of that time passing.”
Mason is the second member of Floyd to be made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE). David Gilmour was honored in 2005.
Congratulations, Nick, who received his CBE yesterday. On being awarded the honour, Nick said that he was "honoured and delighted" but "just surprised that the Award is given for services to music rather than to the used car trade!" https://t.co/aDbpWO3hTd
