We are proud to name as this week’s Rick and Len Show Weenie of the Week…James A. Nickels, the Manitowoc man who this week was sentenced to seven years in a federal prison for running a Ponzi scheme authorities claim bilked dozens of investors — including his own mother — out of millions of dollars. Who bilks their own mother? Mother bilking is so rare even the Oxford English Dictionary doesn’t have a listing for mother bilkers. According to court documents, Nickels, who is the uncle of Manitowoc mayor Justin Nickels, was using money from new investors to pay interest and principal promised to previous investors and to pay his own personal expenses. In other words, he was essentially robbing Peter to pay Paul but instead of paying it all to Paul was just keeping a bunch of the cash for himself.
So,
For screwing his own mother, which didn’t end well for King Oedipus either. (Where are all my Greek Mythology fans at?)
For, by the way of familial connection, sullying the image of Mayor Skippy, a man with a reputation so squeaky clean it sounds like he has a family of hungry mice in his pants.
And for allegedly running a Ponzi scheme which is a word that always creates for me the uncomfortable mental image of what you would get if Happy Days characters Potsie and Fonzie somehow procreated together.
