Future developers in Green Bay will be putting money toward public art, if they receive incentives from the city.
The city’s redevelopment authority is putting the requirement in place, and it’s the first-of-its-kind in the state.
Ald. Brian Johnson believes it will spark economic development. He says public art helps transform neighborhoods.
Developers have to put one percent of the overall value of their project in a fund, set up through the Green Bay Public Arts Commission. That’s $100,000 for a $10 million project.
The developers could decide to use the money on their building, or keep it in the city-wide fund.
