FEMA is declaring a disaster after last month’s storms in parts of Wisconsin.
It means that local governments can get federal help to cover some of their cleanup costs. The declaration covers 17 counties including Outagamie, Shawano, and Waupaca.
Lisa Van Schyndel is Outagamie County’s emergency management director. She says it’ll help with debris management and some labor costs as well.
The federal funding does not cover any damage to private property.
Van Schyndel says local governments will have to formally apply for help from FEMA. The federal government will pick up 75 percent of their eligible costs.
Governor Evers asked for the disaster declaration last week.
