The City of Appleton is expected to get help covering the cleanup costs from last month’s storm, thanks to FEMA’s federal disaster declaration.
City spokesman Chad Doran says the total was $750,000 a couple of weeks ago, and it will continue to rise. He says city foresters will have to work well into next year, removing city-owned trees along streets, grinding stumps, and planting new trees.
The declaration covers 17 counties, including Outagamie, Shawano, and Waupaca. FEMA will reimburse local governments for 75 percent of what it calls “eligible costs.”
