Oshkosh city leaders want people to have a way to track their water bills in real time.
Recently a man was wrongly charged about $800 for a leak. Appleton uses a service called AquaHawk. It updates water usage every hour and it even sends alerts if there’s a spike.
Appleton water meter technician Chris Borelli thinks it’s helpful. He says he can go to people’s houses and he has proof of a leak through the system.
Borelli says it gives people a chance to spot a leak and fix it before they’re charged too much. Oshkosh officials say it could be a while before a similar system is in place for their customers. They say they have to put in a real-time water monitor for the city first.
