After hearing concerns about proposed new rules for storing manure, a Republican lawmaker is vowing to block them.
Sen. Steve Nass of Whitewater is the co-chair of the Legislature’s rules committee, and he thinks “bureaucrats” are ignoring farmers.
The state’s agriculture department wants to substantially increase the distance storage facilities need to be from neighboring property lines. The change would impact new farms and expansion projects.
Some farmers held a press conference yesterday, complaining they weren’t consulted.
