The federal government will help Appleton International Airport add more taxiway and ramp space in hopes of bringing more businesses to the airport grounds.
The airport is receiving $4.7 million in grants.
Director Abe Weber says the funding comes in the wake of projects by Gulfstream and Air Wisconsin. He says they’ve run out of taxiway and ramp space to expand further. He compares the work to building streets for a future subdivision.
Weber says they plan to start construction this fall.
About $2.4 million of the money is from a competitive grant. Weber is crediting Republican Congressman Mike Gallagher of Green Bay for pushing for that funding.
