The head of a local suicide prevention group says state funding for a hotline is crucial.
There are $110,000 in the state budget, but advocates are waiting for Majority Republicans on the Legislature’s budget committee to formally release it.
Center for Suicide Awareness Executive Director Barb Bigalke calls the hotline more of an “emotional support” line to help people when they’re struggling. She says they may need to text someone after having a bad day, or losing a job, and that’s suicide prevention.
Bigalke was a guest on Fresh Take on WHBY this morning.
