The property tax rate in Brown County could be the lowest in about 30 years.
County Executive Troy Streckenbach is proposing his budget for next year, and it includes a $1 million cut in the property tax levy.
The county is using revenue from a half-cent sales tax to help lower the rate to $4.18 per thousand dollars of value. That’s down about 28 cents.
Streckenbach says they’re planning a number of capital projects, including an expansion of the jail and a new regional medical examiner’s office.
He says they’re also using sales tax revenue to pay cash for projects, and that saves money on interest payments.
Under the proposal, the county’s part of property tax bills would be $418 for every $100,000 of value.
