A $24 million plan to put affordable housing and a grocery store in the heart of downtown Green Bay is being praised by city officials.
The principal planner for the city David Buck says grocers told them there hasn’t been enough people to support a store.
But now that housing will be built on Monroe Avenue a developer also wants to add a Maurer’s Market on the site.
Alderman Randy Scannell believes the proposal is fantastic.
He says adding housing to the grocery store site is a plus.
Buck says they want to make the Monroe corridor more pedestrian friendly.
He says they want it to be a bridge between downtown and the residential area to the east.
The redevelopment authority will take up the issue next Tuesday.
