The lawyer for the Appleton man acquitted of sexual assault charges says the jury’s verdict is a huge step toward his client getting his old life back.
But Attorney Nathan Otis isn’t sure Aaron Heiden will ever be able to do that.
Jurors decided Heiden is not guilty, in a case that generated statewide attention. Heiden was the first to face charges in connection with the backlog of untested sexual assault kits.
A woman accused him of assaulting her 11 years ago, in the former Town of Menasha. Otis says the sex was consensual.
He says it was good to see people approach it with an open mind, and when they critically analyzed the evidence, jurors decided it didn’t make a lot of sense. By deliberating for less than a hour, Otis believes it showed the jury had a lot of questions about the accusations.
