The story of a Hmong family that was imprisoned in Laos, before eventually making it to America, is the next book in the Fox Cities Reads program.
Ashley Thiem-Menning says the author of “The Latehomecomer: A Hmong Family Memoir” will be coming to talk about it in April of next year.
Kao Kalia Yang wrote the book, and it was the first memoir written by a Hmong-American to be published and distributed nationally.
Thiem-Menning says organizers thought the book would be an excellent choice, and lend a voice to the local Hmong population.
Organizers of the community read also received a grant this year from the National Endowment for the Arts.
