Fox Valley Metro police are explaining why there isn’t video from last month’s police shooting.
Police Chief Dan Meister issued a statement, saying the officer didn’t turn on his body camera. He says during high stress, dangerous situations like a police chase, it’s not uncommon for an officer to forget to push a button to activate it.
The department is also blaming a software issue for the lack of video from dash cameras. Meister says they were working with Outagamie County’s I.T. department to integrate their new system with the county’s. That’s since been fixed.
He says if the dash camera was working, it could’ve automatically activated the officer’s body camera.
The officer killed Eduard Lopez-Ucles in the roundabout at Highways 55 and OO in Kaukauna, on September 3rd.
Outagamie County’s district attorney is clearing the officer of any criminal charges.
