A state appeals court is denying a new trial for a man convicted of killing an elderly Oneida couple.
Attorneys for Vance Reed argued that he was illegally stopped by police, before consenting to a DNA sample in September of 2016.
Reed entered no contest pleas to charges that he killed Harry and Lorraine Brown Bear in their Oneida home.
The court is ruling that Reed’s interaction with police was consensual, and that he wasn’t forced to give a DNA sample.
He’s serving a life prison sentence, and he won’t be eligible for parole for about 40 years.
