Justices on the state Supreme Court aren’t going to wait for lower courts to rule on a lawsuit that could dramatically scale back the partial veto powers of the governor.
The conservative group Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty is challenging four of the 78 budget vetoes by Governor Evers. The group claims he improperly used his partial veto pen to create laws that the Legislature never approved.
The case could reverse precedent that’s been in place for more than 40 years.
There’s a 5-2 majority of conservative justices on the high court.
