Appleton might be getting traffic circles for the first time.
They’re part of the city’s plans to rebuild a stretch of Glendale Avenue, between Richmond and Mason streets. The two circles would go at the intersections of Summit and Locust streets.
Traffic Engineer Eric Lom says they’re 12-feet in diameter, so drivers have to slow down to go around them. He says there are dozens of them in Madison, and that city is reporting a 10 percent reduction in speeds and a 70 percent drop in crashes.
The city’s municipal services committee will talk about the proposal next month. The street project is scheduled for 2021.
