In his first budget, Green Bay’s mayor is proposing the city’s highest tax hike in recent years.
Mayor Eric Genrich is proposing a three-point-two percent increase.
He blames a decrease in state aid and state imposed property tax levy limits for the increase.
Genrich says he’s including money to hire a person to address the city’s chronic flooding issues.
The budget will also include money to hire five new police officers.
Property owners would pay $29 for every $100,000 of value.
The next public hearing is Monday.
The City Council will vote on the budget on November 5.
