The UW System president is going to retire.
Ray Cross plans to keep working until his successor is on the job. He’s spent nearly six years as president. Before that, he was the leader of the UW Colleges and UW-Extension. The 71-year-old Cross has been in higher education for 42 years.
Alex Hummel of the UW-Oshkosh chancellor’s office says Cross was often thinking about the future. He says Cross wants to make sure the state’s universities are part of the solution, no matter what happens.
The Board of Regents will hold a national search for the next system president.
