One of the top Republicans in the Assembly says he doesn’t understand why the Senate won’t take up a package of bills to help the homeless.
Majority Leader Jim Steineke of Vandenbroek has been working on the proposals for about two years. He’s not sure why some GOP lawmakers apparently don’t support the recommendations from a Republican-led task force.
Steineke says there was bipartisan support when the Assembly approved the bills about three months ago. He says they also put money in the budget to cover the costs.
He plans to reach out to lawmakers in the new year to push for more support.
