A researcher says more countries are following Russia’s lead, and trying to influence politics and elections through social media.
Megan Metzger of Stanford University spoke at Lawrence University last night. She says Facebook and Twitter recently shut down accounts that originated in China and Iran. She says there’s also evidence of groups trying to have an impact on an independence movement in Spain.
Metzger recommends that when people see political stories on social media, they should check the source, and look for a second one to make sure they’re not propaganda or fake.
