While the City of Appleton is still working with FEMA on the cleanup costs from last July’s major storm, the state will pitch in a little.
Public Works Director Paula Vandehey says the DNR is providing a grant to help replace some city-owned trees. She says the amount is much less than the city could get from the federal government, but the $8,500 will be used next year.
The city lost at least 750 trees that were along city streets and in parks.
Vandehey says they’re about halfway through the FEMA process. She says it’s taking hundreds of hours to put things together.
The city’s cleanup costs topped $750,000. FEMA can reimburse communities up to 75 percent of that.
