A new task force in Appleton will focus on climate change.
The city council voted 12-1 last night to create a special committee.
Ald. Verad Meltzer says it’s not about whether temperatures are warming or cooling, or how much is human-caused or natural. He says they can see how extreme weather is impacting communities, including the number of trees lost in last July’s storm.
The task force would have 10 members, and Mayor Tim Hanna hopes to appoint them soon.
Members could make recommendations on how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and prevent the spread of invasive species.
