A Republican lawmaker is disappointed Governor Evers vetoed a bill that would lower the training requirements for certified nursing assistants.
Sen. Rob Cowles of Allouez says he fully expected the governor to sign it to help nursing homes with staffing problems. He says they need to find ways for people to get into the field, without having to pay a lot of money for training.
Cowles says there was bipartisan support for the change.
Evers believes there are better ways to deal with the shortage than reducing the quality of training programs. He’s creating a special task force to come up with strategies.
