A federal agency identified the remains of a soldier from Waupaca County killed during World War II.
Army Pvt. William Hedtke of Iola was 28. He died from the injuries he suffered during a hard glider landing in the Netherlands in September of 1944.
He was buried as an unknown at a cemetery in the Netherlands. The defense department exhumed Hedtke’s remains in 2016, and used DNA technology to identify him.
He’ll be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
