There’s a proposal to build a new fire station in Freedom for about $3.5 million.
The town board is scheduling a special town meeting on January 8th to let people vote.
Fire Chief Mark Green says they need more space. He says the plans call for expanding storage for equipment, and providing an area for training. Firefighters and EMTs would also have showers, if they need to go through the decontamination process.
In April, 89 percent of town voters shot down a proposed new town hall that included a new fire station. The project would’ve cost nearly $10 million.
The town is planning three community meetings to talk about the new proposal. The first is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the town hall.
