The state’s Democratic U.S. Senator hopes to help volunteer firefighters and EMTs live in the communities they serve.
Sen. Tammy Baldwin of Madison is supporting a bipartisan proposal that would let them buy homes for half price in certain redevelopment areas. She says about 90 percent of departments in the state are at least partially staffed by volunteers.
They would also be able to get low-interest loans to renovate a house or build one.
