Three Illinois men are accused of trying to use fake prescriptions to get painkillers from Appleton drug stores.
Workers at Walgreens on the city’s north side went to police in August, because people were trying to phone in codeine prescriptions ordered by a doctor in Manitowoc. A call to a hospital there found several other fake prescriptions had been filled, using that doctor’s name.
Khiry Aguda, James Bradley, and Taylor Marcotte were the targets of a federal search warrant for their cellphones and cars. Agents reportedly found patient information, and electronics purchased at Best Buy, using stolen information to open credit accounts.
The three men haven’t been formally charged yet.
