Appleton leaders are buying some land for future expansion at the Municipal Services Building and yard waste site.
The city council is signing off on a deal for a total of about $500,000. The 5-1/2 acres are between the yard waste drop-off spot and the water tower on the northeast side.
City Facilities Director Dean Gazza says they’re going to be in that location forever, and they’re going to need extra room. He believes it’s an opportunity the city can’t pass up, because the price will only go up, and land is becoming more scarce.
Public Works Director Paula Vandehey says they need more storage space for vehicles and snow. She says they’d also like to have a site where people could pick up compost to use at their homes.
The land will cost $455,000, and the city will also pay an estimated $45,000 for environmental cleanup.
