After he leaves office in the spring, Appleton’s longtime leader will get to focus on one part of his current job that’s important to him.
Mayor Tim Hanna will be the executive director of the Local Government Institute of Wisconsin. He’ll try to create partnerships between local governments and with the state.
He says there are a number of issues that communities can raise awareness about, if they work together, and get long-needed changes from the state. Hanna says the group drew attention to pothole problems along local roads, and the state eventually provided more funding.
He decided not to run for re-election, after about 24 years in office. He says the new job is more of a part-time one, and he’ll stay in Appleton.
