The Appleton police department’s Explorer post is the best in the state.
The program gets young people between 14 and 21 involved with the department.
Officer Meghan Cash says they won the President’s Award for the top overall score at a statewide competition last weekend.
She says they have about 10 members, and it’s a great way for them to learn more about a law enforcement. She says some are interested in making it their career.
Cash says they provide a tremendous amount of help to the department throughout the year, including during community events like parades.
There were about 40 Explorer posts at the event in Wisconsin Dells. Appleton’s group set a record for the highest score in a dispatch center scenario.
