Majority Republicans in the Assembly are taking a look at plans from Governor Evers to help farmers, and they want to take them up a notch.
Speaker Robin Vos says the governor had a good idea to put more money toward helping farmers find export markets. But he doesn’t think it was enough, and GOP lawmakers want to go “big and be bold.”
Evers proposed spending about $8.5 million on a series of proposals. He says if Republicans want to put more money toward mental health issues or other programs, he’s on board.
Vos didn’t have a lot of specifics. But GOP lawmakers might try to let farmers, and other “sole proprietors,” deduct their health insurance costs from their taxes.
