Governor Evers still hopes to get his proposal for the projected budget surplus through the Legislature or at least work out a compromise with Republicans.
He’s pushing to put $250 million toward public schools, and cut school property taxes by $130 million.
Evers says his plan is “easily superior” to the one from Republican lawmakers.
The Assembly and Senate approved a GOP plan, calling for a $250 million income tax cut for the middle class. Another $45 million would be used to lower personal property taxes for businesses.
Evers says his proposal would make things better for schools and taxpayers at the same time. He believes the money would help some districts from having to hold a referendum to continue their existing programs. He says property taxpayers would also see the school portion of their tax bill go down.
Evers signed at bill dealing with the sale of airplanes, during a stop at Appleton International Airport this morning. It protects airplane buyers. It’s kind of like a “Carfax for planes,” with sellers having to disclose the service history, and whether they owe airports money for fuel or repairs.
