ThedaCare is collecting unused prescription drugs at seven hospitals and the health care provider believes the boxes are having an impact.
Medication Diversion Specialist Sarah Raether says since last August, they’ve destroyed more than 500 pounds of drugs. She says they’re especially helpful in rural areas, and for elderly people who don’t drive but visit hospitals.
Raether says families can also use the boxes, if they want to get rid of drugs after a loved one dies. Many police departments around the state also have collection boxes.
