They say that in order to get over your fears – you must first face those very same fears.
There’s a lot of fear out there in the world about – what’s next for us. How will the world be changed going forward, will I see my friends and family again, how bad will it get, am I infected, can my pet carry this disease, was this all a government plot to control the public or is this just nature scratching an itch – which is humanity???
These are all legitimate fears people are having now but luckily for us the horror film genre has it covered many times over.
Let’s take a look at some movies that might be scary because of our current circumstances but could help you quiet those fears by playing them out in front of you – from a nice, safe distance.
Let’s face ’em together – It’s ‘Quarantine Viral Cinema 2020′!
First up: 2002’s ‘Resident Evil’. Based on the crazy-awesome adventure/horror video game – one which I’ve personally played (probably) hundreds of hours on my original Playstation system.
And, Yes, I still have it.
Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. Starring an ass-kicking Milla Jovovich. The ‘fears’ involved in ‘Resident Evil’ are – viral disease and a distrust of authority figures, government agencies and large corporations. (Insert Your Personal Commentary Here).
Summary from (IMDB). At the beginning of the 21st century, the Umbrella Corporation had become the largest commercial entity in the United States. Nine out of every ten homes contain its products. Its political and financial influence is felt everywhere. In public, it is the world’s leading supplier of computer technology, medical products, and healthcare. Unknown, even to its own employees, its massive profits are generated by military technology, genetic experimentation, and viral weaponry.
And the ‘Viral Weaponry’ part is where it all goes very wrong.
A virus has escaped in a secret Umbrella Corporation facility called “The Hive,” which is located under an unsuspecting Raccoon City. The complex computer A.I. (The Red Queen) has become self-aware and has shut down the base to prevent infection. But, in doing so, turns the staff into zombies and released mutated Lab “Animals”.
Mutants, Zombies and the Military Industrial Complex – Oh MY!
