The nation’s longest-serving state lawmaker won’t run for re-election.
Sen. Fred Risser of Madison has been in the Legislature for 64 years. The Democrat is 92 years old.
Risser has also spent more time in office than anyone in the history of Congress. He was first elected to the Assembly in 1956, and he’s been in the Senate since 1962.
Risser served with 13 governors. Seven were Democrats and six were Republicans.
