Appleton Mayor Tim Hanna is endorsing Jake Woodford to lead the city for the next four years.
Hanna decided not to run for re-election after 24 years in office. He’s Appleton’s longest-serving mayor.
Woodford faces Jim Clemons in the April 7th election. Clemons spent 20 years on the city council, through 2013.
Woodford’s campaign announced the endorsement today, saying Hanna made the decision based on Woodford’s vision for Appleton, management experience, and ability to lead.
“As fate would have it, the City of Appleton will be electing a new Mayor in the middle of a crisis. That’s why it’s important to understand there is one candidate with incident management training and experience leading in crisis – Jake Woodford,” said Hanna.
“This election is not about the past; it’s about having the skills to manage our current health emergency as well as having a vision for keeping Appleton on a positive path forward,” Hanna continued. “For these reasons I am endorsing Jake Woodford as the next Mayor of Appleton.”
Woodford also released a statement:
“Mayor Hanna has served our community with dedication and determined leadership for 24 years. He knows what it takes to lead the city in good times and tough times.
“I am honored that he has endorsed me to succeed him. We are at a pivotal moment for our city; I appreciate Mayor Hanna’s trust in me to lead our city through the current crisis and deliver on the shared aspirations of Appletonians in the future.”
