There aren’t as many contested races for city and county offices in the state.
The Wisconsin Policy Forum says there will be more than one candidate for just 22 percent of seats on April 7th. The figure was 32 percent in 2012.
Researcher Ari Brown looked at the 10 largest cities and counties. He says there’s competition for one out of every five county board seats, and around half of the city council spots.
He believes fewer people aren’t running because they might not realize what local governments do.
