Premiere Networks has been reaching out to artists while they’re staying home and safe during the pandemic. Sammy Hagar spoke to the service about how he’s connecting with old friends, spending time with family, playing guitar, writing songs, and cooking.
Any long overdue projects you’re finally going to tackle?
SH: “I am becoming Mr. Fix It around the house. But actually, I’m not good at house maintenance — plumbing etc. — and I’ve probably done more damage than good ha ha.”
Is this pandemic making you think twice about how you’ll live your life after (and if) we’re given the all-clear?
SH: “I’m definitely thinking a lot about how busy and ambitious I’ve been my whole life. Contemplating slowing down a bit for sure, but I’m also extremely horny to play live shows. I think that’s one of the greatest joys in my life and I’m missing it right now.”
Do you agree with the decision to postpone concerts, sporting events, etc?
SH: “I agree with any decision that has to do with the safety of the people on this planet. God for bid one of my family members, your loved ones got this virus and didn’t survive and it was out of negligence or stupidity! Not sure I could live with that.”
Any words of advice to your fans during this difficult time?
SH: “The only advice I could give anyone, fan or not, would be to take this time to spend with your family and loved ones. Reflect on what you really need and really want in your life. Enjoy doing nothing, as hard as it may be, because when we all jump back in to the new normal life that’s ahead of us, it’s going to get real busy. It’s also a good time to take up a new hobby, like cooking, playing a musical instrument, exercise, reading, learning a new language.”
Anything else you’d like to add?
SH: “My bandmates from The Circle — Jason Bonham, Michael Anthony and Vic Johnson — and I have gotten creative on how we can still make music together through emails, video, iPhone and real phone conversations. We actually collaborated on a little jam called ‘Funky Feng Shui’ and made a video that we released on social media this past weekend.
“It didn’t cost one penny to record or film because we did it all on our iPhones! Now that’s really cool that we can just hand that over to the fans for free! We will be doing a lot more of this to keep the creative juices flowing between us. Stay tuned and stay healthy.”
