Menasha’s leader will stay in officer for another four years.
Mayor Don Merkes won a fourth, four-year term. He defeated Ald. Rebecca Nichols, 61 percent to 38 percent.
Merkes says some of the housing in the city needs some “tender love and care,” and he’s looking forward to seeing how the city’s Strong Neighborhoods program will help. He believes by matching some of the cost for improvements, it will be a game-changer for a lot of the neighborhoods.
Merkes also wants the city to try to reinvent the downtown. He believes there’s a lot of potential with the Brin, Banta and Gilbert sites, along with other under-utilized sites.
Merkes was first elected in 2008.
