Police in Portage say two inmates escaped from the state’s prison in the city.
Police say 37-year-old James Newman was charged with shooting a gun in Brown County in 2009, and he was convicted of three felonies in Jackson County, including kidnapping.
Forty-six-year-old Thomas Deering’s record includes second-degree sexual assault, kidnapping, and burglary.
Police think they could be heading to the Madison area.
