There will be a new mayor in De Pere today.
Mayor-elect James Boyd will be sworn in.
Mike Walsh held the job for the past 24 years. He says he followed his father’s footsteps into local government.
His dad was on the city council in the 1950s and 60s. He said he didn’t think about running for mayor at first, but his family thought he should go for it, instead of a spot on the city council.
Walsh didn’t run for re-election this spring.
He says the highlights of his time include the construction of the Claude Allouez Bridge, and the riverwalk project on the west side.
