Majority Republicans in the Legislature are asking the state Supreme Court to block Governor Evers from extending the “safer at home” order.
Evers put the guidelines in place until May 26th. He released a “Badger Bounce Back” plan Monday, setting guidelines to reopen businesses.
Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke of Vandenbroek says GOP lawmakers don’t want to end “safer at home” tomorrow. He says they don’t think Evers can extend the order on his own, past the May 11th end date for the 60-day emergency declaration.
Steineke hopes they can reopen the state on a regional basis.
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald asked justices to take the case directly.
Conservative justices currently have a 5-to-2 majority on the Supreme Court.
